VS notları - 4


Şef Seattle'ın 1852'de atalarından devraldıkları toprakları beyazlara teslim ederken kendi halkına yaptığı konuşmadan alıntı:

"This we know. The earth does not belong to man; man belongs to the earth. This we know. All things are connected like the blood which unites one family. All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth, befalls the sons of the earth. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to web, he does to himself."

Şef Seattle'ın önünde saygıyla eğiliyorum. Eli öpülesi adammış. Sadece yaşadığı dünyayı değil, beyaz adamı da pek iyi tanıyormuş.

Duane Elgin'in Voluntary Simplicity'sinden bu satırları okurken, paralel olarak da Işıl'ın tavsiyesiyle James Lovelock'un Revenge of Gaia adlı kitabını okuyordum. Bir ara fırsat bulursam bu kitaptan da bahsetmek isterim. Ama Lovelock'un bilimsel detaylarla bezediği Gaia Hipotezini üç cümlede anlatmak gerekse, sözü Şef Seattle'a bırakmak yeterli olurdu sanırım.
